What is MLD?
MLD is a very gentle, soft touch and repetitive type of massage which improves the function of the lymphatic system. It works only at skin level and stimulates the removal of toxins, waste products and excess fluid. The repetitive nature of the treatment makes it a very relaxing experience and afterwards people tend to feel calmer and more clear headed. MLD is offered here at The Little Escape by Marion (Vodder method) and Marie.

When is MLD useful?

- Detoxification
MLD is a great detox-treatment as it helps the body to remove toxins and waste products from the tissues. The effects are clearer skin, reduced puffiness, less fluid retention and reduced cellulite as well as a sense of well-being.

- Pregnancy
During pregnancy many women experience swollen ankles and legs, making walking very uncomfortable. Unless the swelling is due to a serious condition, e.g. pre-eclampsia, it can be treated with MLD to reduce the amount of water retention and swelling around the ankles and legs.

- Pre- and post- cosmetic surgery
MLD can help to reduce the amount of bruising and swelling from cosmetic surgery as well as speed up the healing process.

- Post cancer surgery
This applies particularly to breast cancer treatment where MLD is used preventatively after surgery to reduce the risk of lymphedema. This affects around 25% of patients where the removal of lymph nodes in the axilla leads to swelling of the arm causing discomfort and pain.
In Europe, MLD is widely prescribed as a routine treatment after cancer surgery (please note that only the Vodder method is suitable and insured for work with cancer patients, which is offered by Marion).

Apart from these main indications, MLD has also been found useful to:

- strengthen the immune system by removing waste products from the body
- alleviate chronic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, eczema, acne, sinusitis
- help relieve migraines and headaches
- promotes healing of wounds and appearance of old scars

General information about MLD

The treatment usually lasts 1hour after a short consultation and the frequency and number of treatments needed is decided individually. There are usually no negative side effects after the treatment but you may find you need to urinate more frequently and feel thirstier than usual.
