TENSION & TRAUMA RELEASING PRACTITIONER

Tara Rai is a British Indian IFS therapist (Internal Family Systems) and certified TRE provider (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) devoted to sharing her wonder of embodiment, creativity and spiritual healing traditions. 

Following a birth trauma that resulted in Erb’s Palsy, a nerve damage to her right arm, Tara embarked on a profound healing initiation - one that reshaped her relationship to her body, soul and psyche. 

Tara’s therapeutic work is rooted in lived experience and guided by a deep trust in humanity’s innate healing capacity to overcome even the most challenging life experiences. 

IFS Therapy: 

IFS is a global evidence based healing approach that comes highly recommended by leading experts including Dr Gabor Maté, Dr Rangan Chatterjee and Dr Bessel van der Kolk to name but a few. 



The basis of IFS is that we all are naturally made up of parts or sub-personalities and this is what makes us remarkable human beings. However, if you’ve experienced trauma and/or attachment injuries, your parts have likely taken on certain roles and burdens that are no longer needed moving forward. 

During sessions we invite parts to speak for themselves and share their positive intentions even if their external behaviours seem less than favourable to other parts. By learning how parts have acquired their various roles and appreciating their long standing service, parts begin to transform and work together more harmoniously. 

In IFS sessions we also encourage the development and leadership of the inner ‘Self’ who is akin to a compassionate caregiver who can support parts to return to their natural states of being before life events shaped them into their extreme roles.

TRE: 

TRE a healing approach created by Dr. David Berceli who discovered whilst working in war zones that humans naturally shake to release stress from their body.

As a culture we have forgotten this primal, effective way of coming out of survival states such as fight/flight/freeze as we often see shaking as a sign of weakness. However, shaking supports our bodies to feel lighter, connected and more resilient to life stressors.

How does TRE work?

We begin with 7 gentle grounding movements which activate specific muscle groups related to the body's fight, flight, or freeze response. This turns on a natural tremor response (just like animals) which helps the body release tension and calms the nervous system down.
