Trauma-Informed Myofascial bodywork
Somatic Therapy

Marie-Louise has been a bodyworker since 2005. Initially training in sports massage, nutrition, and exercise prescription. Over the years, her bodywork integrated needle work and fire cupping, giving more tools to help with soft tissue issues and injuries.

In more recent years, Marie-Louise has turned her attention to less bio-mechanical methods, and re-trained as a Somatic Therapist at The School Of Holistic Therapy in Edinburgh Welcome

Somatic Therapy is where we work via the nervous system. It's has a slow, curious and kind approach, finding embodied trauma from past experiences. Through continuous communication, we navigate what what the client's system is holding onto. Unlike talking therapy, we don't recite old stories and memories. We stick with listening to what the body is saying. It's a very honest and organic therapy, where we wait for the client's body to allow us to find held trauma. Once found, we use slow movements to gently look for re-regulation of the nervous system. This allows for unburdening to take place. Literally letting go of embodied trauma!

Marie-Louise practices from The Little Complementary Clinic on Mondays and Saturdays and offers Somatic Therapy as well as Trauma-Informed Myofascial Release

What are Somatic and MFR Therapies?

Somatic Trauma Therapy is body centered. It helps people focus and heal from traumatic experiences. By regulating the nervous system, embodied trauma is released and the mind-body connection is strengthened. In Somatic Therapy sessions, the client is taught to listen to their bodies via 'felt sense'. Together, we gently navigate what the body is willing to give us access to in the moment. We do this work through dialog and suggested movement. It can be used along with Trauma Informed MFR or on it's own according to client need.

Trauma Informed Myofascial Release (MFR) is a form of hands-on bodywork where the practitioner connects with the client's fascia network. This can include holding, stretching, and gentle traction. Some techniques can feel scratchy, this is normal. It can take time for the body to allow change to happen. Openness to change is important and does improve with practice. There can be spontaneous movement from the client, along with other forms of release. This is all welcome, as they're all signs the fascia is letting something go.
