Reflexology

Reflexology is a holistic therapy that works primarily on the feet to facilitate health and relaxation. Areas of the feet are seen to correspond by 'reflex' to specific parts of the body. Pressing and massaging these areas has been found to have a beneficial effect on the organs they correspond to, and on the body as a whole. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourage healing.

Origin

It's speculated that Reflexology was first practiced in ancient Egypt, India and China, though it wasn't until 1913 that Dr William Fitzgerald introduced this therapy to the west as 'Zone Therapy'. He noted that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone.

In the 1930's, Eunice Ingham further developed 'Zone Therapy' into what is now known as Reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.

Benefits

Reflexology is a complementary therapy which works on the feet to help heal the whole person, not just the prevailing symptoms.

Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. After having completed a course of Reflexology treatments for a specific condition, many people find it a beneficial way to maintain health and well-being.

Reflexology has been shown to be effective for:

✹ Migraine

✹ Fertility

✹ Arthritis

✹ Sleep disorders

✹ Sports injuries

✹ Hormonal imbalances

✹ Digestive disorders

✹ Stress-related conditions

What to expect in a session

In the first session your practitioner will ask a few questions about your medical history, and why you opted for a treatment. This is to determine the best way of proceeding and to rule out any conditions that would prohibit or limit reflexology. All information given will be held in the strictest confidence.

In a typical session you'll be lying down on a couch, covered, with only your feet exposed. The pressure applied will always be within your comfort zone.
